Queen of Chiliwack    Fri. 8/20      8575-8584 (9 mi.) Got up at 6:00 am and headed down to the co-op parking lot to line up for the ferry. Met Jorg and Annette from Munich and John - an old German guy from everywhere (Chicago). Nice Norwegian ferry with lounge and cafeteria. Darryl and I signed up to canoe from Shearwater to McLaughlin Bay (Bella Bella), but by the time we got there (7:30) it was raining. Got out the rain gear and paddled for 1:10 across 3 miles of water along the Indian villages. Waited an hour at the other end for the ferry to re-appear. Got back fairly wet, but it was still fun. Pulled out the blanket and air mattress and slept on the floor in the dining room after talking with Darryl's "old crush" Cynthia. Saw a Black Bear at a stop in Ocean Falls. More Pictures from the Queen of Chiliwack Victoria    Sat. 8/21      8584-8918 (334 mi.) Rude awakening by the crew at 7:30. Got into Port Hardy about 9:00. Rolled off the ferry to see Pierre and Steve! Hustled down to Courtenay to meet Darryl's cousin Vern by noon (got there at 1:30). Pierre and Steve took off for Quebec while we continued on to Victoria. Stopped at Brew Pub in Victoria before heading down to the beach where Vern and his wife Cathy were camped in a beautiful trailer with their kids Lindsey (11) and Michael (8). Set up camp and had a nice fire on the beach. Victoria    Sun. 8/22      8918 (0 mi.) Beautiful day! Decided to just hang out until Vern's dad, mom, and sister (with 9 week old baby) showed up. Went to Vern's house in Sydney to shower and wash a load of laundry first. Had a few drinks and a great dinner before another nice fire and early bed. Nice relaxing day with no driving! |
