Portland    Wed. 8/25      9381-9397 (16 mi.)

Phillip, Sebastian, and me Got up around 9:30 and had a nice German-style breakfast with Angelika and Tilman (7 weeks old). Headed out to get some new headphones about noon, then went for a drive around Portland, ending up at the Bridgeport Brewery for lunch. Got back to Phil's about 3:30. Hung out for a while, then went out to dinner at a nice Mexican restaurant around the corner. Stayed up fairly late talking.

Portland    Thu. 8/26      9397-9436 (39 mi.)

At the Kennedy School Phillip with his Family Got up, had breakfast, and got to Triumph dealer in Tigard by 11:00 for an oil change and check-up. Went over to huge Honda/Yamaha dealer in Beaverton to replace highway pegs. Met Phil downtown for greek lunch, then went to Powell's Book Store for an hour or so. Followed another Triumph over to Widmer Brewpub, then on to Portland Brewing Company. Neither would fill my growler, so I swung by Bridgeport again before heading home. Erica and Sebastian Sebastian and his kids Quick nap before heading out to Kennedy School for dinner. Very interesting old elementary school converted into a "Brewpub Mall" with a theater, band, restaurant, and more. Over to Sebastian's and Erika's for dessert, then home to bed.

Enterprise    Fri. 8/27      9436-9775 (339 mi.)

Packed up and on the road by 9:30. Straight out the Columbia River then detoured to La Grande for the Blue Moon Brewery (bust) and then a nice ride to Enterprise and the Terminal Gravity Brewery (Hit). Very nice, very small, outdoor seats with three beers and good food. Ten miles south to Hurricane Creek campground. Initially planned to hike in across a river to an empty (loud) campground, but after talking to Al, his wife "Very", and Amber, decided to share their camp. Apparently they had some trouble with camp robbers stealing food and Al had to fire a warning shot to chase one away. Quite Spooky! Al and his family were apparently living at the campground.

Missoula    Sat. 8/28      9775-10101 (326 mi.)

View from Lemhi Pass Up early and got the hell out of that campground by 9:00! Long, beautiful drive through wilderness all the way to Missoula. Stopped in Lewiston for lunch but otherwise kept moving. Went to the Kettlehouse Brewery (micro! - 12 keg batches), the Big Sky Brewery (closed), makers of Moose Drool Brown Ale. Got a room at the Downtown Motel, went back to Kettlehouse for a pint and a fill, then on to the Iron Horse Brewpub (?). Mostly college kids, but a good crowd. They thought I was an undercover cop - Thanks a lot! Home, wathed Hitchcock and HBO until late.

Lemhi (Clark Canyon Reservoir)    Sun. 8/29      10101-10315 (214 mi.)

Camping by the reservoir The trail down from Lemhi Pass Checked out at 11:00 and headed south. KFC Buffet in Hamilton, then on to Salmon for a breakSalmon Valley Brewpub was closed on Sunday, so I pushed on to Lemhi Pass. Twelve miles of dirt up, and twelve miles down the other side. Middle of nowhere! Stopped at the Clark Canyon Reservoir and camped by the water - no one else anywhere around. Someone had left enough wood for a fire, so I actually cooked some soup and tea for a change. Beautiful night sky - watched the moon rise from behind the mountains. Very relaxing and peaceful evening.
