Quebec

The sun was shining when I got up, so I quickly packed up and headed out. Nice, uneventful ride. Decided not to cross the river by ferry but try to make Quebec before dark. Looked for, and finally found the remains of Microbrasserie Brueghel near St. Germain (total Bust), but kept on towards Quebec. When I arrived I stopped at the tourist info, where they booked me a cheap room right in the old part of the city. Got there, settled in, then went driving around a little. Found L'Inox brewpub, and they directed me to La Barberie, another Micro BP. There I worked with the head brewer to finish his batch of stout. Great place, with really good beers! Drove back to the hotel and then headed out to walk around town at night. Wound up back at L'Inox for a nightcap and a European style hot dog. Walked back up (and up, and up) to the hotel about midnight.

Quebec Quebec Went down to breakfast and decided to stay another day. Walked up to the battlements, along the promenade, and all the way around the citadel before looping back and and going in for the walking tour. Very interesting tour with a lot of historic info about Quebec. Made my way back to town for a light lunch at a sidewalk café before going in to the Musee del Fort, where they showed a history of the City's sieges and battles on an interactive model. Met a local (Ron) sitting by my bike upon returning to the hotel, so we had a beer together and I got some local insight Quebec Quebec on the city. Went up to the hotel balcony overlooking the city to catch up on maps and the journal before heading back out for some dinner. Wound up back at La Barberie instead to help Michel finish his latest batch of IPA. He even promised to send me some of his recipes when I got back. Went back into town for a late bite and then back to the hotel. Only day of the trip I didn't put any miles on the bike! Quebec

Montreal, QC     Thu, 9/19      85060-85250 (190 mi)

Got up and out pretty early and headed out to Trois Riveres to get lunch at
Chez Gambrinus BP. Very nice little place with good beers. Then on to St. Hyacinth via some back roads in search of La Bilboquet. I finally found it, only to be told the didn't open until 3:00 (it was 2:15). Thought about splitting (I wasn't sure if they were being rude or not), but ended up looking around town for a while. When I went back, they were suddenly very friendly, and the brewer gave me a good tour of his largely home-made brewery. My kind of place! When we got back to the bar they set me up with a free taster of all their beers - all very good - I was glad I stayed! Continued on to Montreal, getting a room in the hotel recommended by Jim at Ste Anne des Mont. Walked around the Latin Quarter that night, Hitting L'Amere a Boire, 3 Brasseurs, and Le Cheval Blanc before turning in for the night.

Sheffield, VT     Fri, 9/20      85250-85537 (287 mi)

Headed out early to get through Vermont before the day was over. Nice ride through the middle of Lake Champlain. Stopped at
3 Needs (not open 'till 5:00 pm) and the very nice Vermont BP for lunch in Burlington. Quebec Continued down Rte 7 to Bennington and the Madison BC. Met some "locals" who told me about Pittsfield BP and one in Great Barrington, so I continued on. Got a free Mexican grand opening dinner in Pittsfield from someone in the (ex-)brewpub, passed on the Grateful Dead tribute band, and continued on to Great Barrington. Met some people (Meg, Keith, and Michele) at the Barrington BP who took me to another bar with a band. They finally led me home to set up my tent in the back yard.

Leesburg, VA     Sat, 9/21      85537-85901 (364 mi)

Got up, packed up quick, and headed for home. Got back around 4:00. Total miles: 5801.
